“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?”
Matthew 6:25-27 (NASB)
Certainly, the above excerpt of Scripture admonishes us to shake-off and break-free of the shackles of anxiety–which, in this hour, are lapping at our feet like a subtle yet unavoidable incoming tide along the shore. Remaining free of anxiety however does not grant us the liberty to revel in the irresponsibility of failing to store-up food for the Winter–the Winter of staged national tumult, chaos and tyranny, which is unfolding before us by the very hour.
We do well to consider the whole counsel of Scripture (i.e., “the sum of Your word is truth,” (Ps. 119:160). And as we consider the sum of the Word, we must also accept the counterpart to Matthew 6, by accepting the correlative wisdom in Proverbs 6:6, which reads:
“Go to the ant, O sluggard, observe her ways and be wise, which having no chief officer or ruler, prepares her food in the Summer, and gathers her provision in the harvest.”
